Born in Pakistan and based primarily in London, England, the brunette beauty Gabrielle Drake is the older sister of the late singer/songwriter/hipster icon Nick Drake. She made quite a name for herself beyond her little brother’s shadow, however, exuding a sultry reserve that is at once high class and down and dirty. That “high class” attitude is likely a result of Gabrielle’s childhood. Her father was an engineer and her mother was a amateur songwriter, and while neither of these professions are particularly glamorous, somehow Gabrielle managed to grow up in a home with servants. In her youth, Gabrielle appeared in children’s theatrical productions on the ship while her family traveled to England. She went on to attend the Edgbaston College for Girls in Birmingham, Wycombe Abbey School, Buckinghamshire, and the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art in London, which is where she fostered her love for acting. Gabrielle started out working in theater, but eventually her hot body made its way into the film world. Gabrielle’s uncommonly wide eyes, lips plush beyond the norm, and otherworldly placidity of expression cause her to seem almost doll-like or extraterrestrial in her comely perfection. This vaguely alien allure accounts for dreamy Drake’s successful and hypnotic portrayal of Lieutenant Gay Ellis on the English sci-fi series UFO (1970). Gabrielle was able to combine comedy with comeliness in the Peter Sellers absurdity There’s a Girl in My Soup (1970). In a lapse into logical behavior, Sellers drools over the taunting nipples of Gabrielle, and we the audience salivate along with him.
